OneRare Integrates Chainlink VRF to Help Power Randomized NFT Staking Reward Distribution
We’re excited to announce that OneRare, the food metaverse, has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on the Polygon Mainnet. By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to support randomized in-game NFT distribution to users staking their ORARE tokens. Ultimately this creates a more exciting, transparent, and fraud-proof user experience, as users can receive Ingredient & Dish NFTs as staking rewards in a provably fair and randomized manner on the blockchain.
Additionally, OneRare is planning to integrate Chainlink Keepers to automate the smart contracts of its novel DeFi Farming Mechanism.
Once the contracts are fully audited, the OneRare development team will open-source their smart contracts for the broader NFT gaming community to use.
OneRare celebrates food on the blockchain for the first time ever by creating enthralling gameplay for foodies across the world. Users can explore the four areas of the Foodverse — Farm, Farmer’s Market, Kitchen, & Playground — to stake, earn, collect, and battle. At the Farm, users can stake ORARE to farm for Ingredient NFTs that can be harvested and sold at the Farmer’s Market, or used to combine Dishes in the Kitchen. Our project aims to bring the global food and beverage industry to the blockchain by bringing celebrity chefs, restaurants, and brands to the Foodverse via NFTs, and celebrating global cuisines and culinary talent.
In order to help ensure that the NFTs are randomly assigned to users, we need access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity. For instance, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data like block hashes can be exploited by validators, while off-chain RNG solutions derived from off-chain APIs are opaque and don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process.
After reviewing various solutions, we selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by a time-tested Oracle network, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The OneRare smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the Ingredient & Dish NFTs they receive are provably fair and were not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the OneRare team.
With the rapidly growing Foodverse opening new doors for the Global Food Industry, we see many opportunities for leveraging Chainlink solutions to strengthen our technical side, such as using Price Feeds to create virtual tamper-proof markets in the future.
